Daryl Gene Ulferts
June 26, 1941 ~ November 13, 2020

Daryl Ulferts was born June 26, 1941 to Peter and Luella Ulferts in  rural Fulda MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and Fulda public school, graduating in 1959. He attended Worthington Community College and was later drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Ft Gordon, GA and later to Miesau Germany. After the military he moved to Minneapolis and began working at Control Data Corporation which later became General Dynamics. Daryl and Valoree Schwarz were married January 1, 1967. They had 2 sons , Darren (who passed away in 2018) and Dean (who resided in South Carolina). After taking early retirement from General Dynamics, he began working for CH Carpenter Lumber. He loved driving the countryside delivering whatever was needed to job sites.

Daryl always enjoyed visiting with friends, family, and neighbors. After retiring, he had more time to enjoy at the cabin. He would sit and listen to the breeze in the pines, and enjoy God’s creation. He liked the boating and the 4-wheeling. He also enjoyed the Thursday Morning Men’s group at church, working on odd jobs and projects.

Daryl passed away peacefully the evening of November 13, 2020 at M Health Fairview Hospital in Edina MN.

Daryl is survived by wife of 53 years, Valoree; Grandchildren Asia, Dylan, Dawson (mother Lori Johnson); and 3 great-grandchildren Sadie, Mariah, Ava; brother, Leon (Rita) Ulferts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Daryl was preceded in death by parents Peter and Luella Ulferts, brothers Lloyd and Werner Ulferts, and son Darren Ulferts. Son Dean Ulferts passed away shortly after Daryl on February 6, 2021. Daryl's interment was at Fr. Snelling Cemetery on November 24, 2020.

Daryl and I were classmates at Fulda MN High School, we had many memories of school years that we shared whenever we were together. We became close once again when I moved to Spirit Lake IA, and we had the opportunity to get together quite often. We went on many bus trips together including; New York City, Alaska, Glacier and Yellowstone Park, River Cruise through Europe. Fun times! We even went four wheeling in Wisconsin at Daryl and Val's cabin. Daryl was an excellent 500 Card Player and we played many games when we had a chance. Daryl and I had many phone conversations over the years, one of our last conversations, he informed me of his cancer and shared that the chemo was not working and the Drs. were trying something new and that also was not working. I was devastated and Daryl said to me, it is what it is. His positive attitude through all this health issues was amazing. I have lost a great friend. RIP dear friend Daryl.
